by Ray Chambers

Saving Lives Protecting Futures Cover ArtUN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hosted a high-level event called Saving Lives, Protecting Futures to launch a Progress Report on the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health. The Global Strategy was launched in 2010 to accelerate progress towards achieving MDGs 4, 5 and 6. The Progress Report informs Member States and other stakeholders on achievements made and lessons learned over the past 5 years in the quest to improve the lives of women and children globally. Key themes in the report are: Progress in reducing maternal and child mortality and morbidity; Innovations to improve women’s and children’s health; Accountability for concrete results for women and children; and Mobilization of essential resources for women’s and children’s health. The report also sets the rationale for continued and accelerated action on the unfinished MDG agenda in the remaining MDG year and after a new set of goals is endorsed at this year’s UN General Assembly.
